Jeff Mayer is a Supervisory Detection Enforcement Officer (SDEO) with the U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP) Office of Air and Marine’s (OAM) Air and Marine Operations Center (AMOC) in Riverside, Calif. With more than 260 aircraft and almost 300 marine vessels, the Office of Air and Marine is the world’s largest aviation and maritime law enforcement organization employing more than 1,200 Federal agents and operating from over 80 air and marine locations. The mission of the Office of Air and Marine is to protect the American people and the Nation’s critical infrastructure through the coordinated use of integrated air and marine forces to detect, interdict, and prevent acts of terrorism and the unlawful movement of people, illegal drugs, and other contraband toward or across the United States.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Mayer enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1982. He served as an Instructor for Air Traffic Control School and conducted duty assignments for Aircraft Carrier, Amphibious and land based Air Traffic Control Operations. Highlights of his Naval career are multi-force and international aviation operations during the 1987 hostage situation in Lebanon, supporting aviation counter drug missions in central Caribbean in 1988 and Operation Enduring Freedom, Persian Gulf theatre in 1997. Jeff joined the AMOC in xxxx and became an SDEO where he ensured full detection and monitoring of suspect air and maritime tracks approaching or operating within the U.S.
In 2012, Jeff was assigned as AMOC’s Maritime Technology and Sensor Integrator and assists multiple agencies in the development and integration of a Maritime Common Operational Picture. His knowledge of radar capabilities, tactical operations and air interdiction lessons learned has proven valuable in aligning DHS/CBP technology and policy towards Border Maritime Security. These efforts have enhanced the operational response for multi-agency aviation and maritime forces to engage suspect maritime threats in a cross-domain environment conducting maritime operations.
Jeff’s career efforts have resulted in numerous bulk cash, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine seizures. Follow-on investigations resulted in property forfeitures worth millions of dollars.
